2006

Woohoo! New Year at the Tyax lodge... well not really, it turned out to be my regular run of the mill new year with me being in bed after two beers by 9:30. I was up at the ski lodge for a week of training in anticipation of the ski season. I was the "fill in guy". Todd Cooper was the main pilot up there, he had worked there previously for the helicopter company that held the contract prior to us. I would spell him off when he took time off so I ended up doing two or three week long tours there throughout the winter. It is a nice area with not bad flying conditions (if you ignore the wind!) and a great bunch of guides which definitely made the work easier. Those tours were quite the education, I didn't do much flying however, in fact I didn't make enough to cover my bar tab while I was there! I learnt just how much trouble Kiwis can be though... okay okay, I wont generalize but this particular 'wanker' was a great source of entertainment. I can still picture him, after introducing me to the joys of drinking tequila from a barmaids belly, massaging this poor girl on the bar counter with a look on his face that could have been included in the OED as an illustration of the term "shit eating grin!" Good little Greg behaved himself though and it was just as well, when I got back for another tour I was called in for hepatitis shots. Apparently the crew were a fairly tight and not to mention friendly bunch.
